Australian-born music producer Taka Perry is opening up about his international career, his work with KATSEYE, and his growing involvement in Japan’s music industry.

In a recent interview for the Unbound Japan series, the 28-year-old producer discussed his journey from Canberra to Sydney before relocating to Japan in 2025.

Perry helped create KATSEYE’s 2024 hit “Touch” during a songwriting session in Sydney. The track was inspired by his interest in NewJeans and eventually reached HYBE through producer Cashmere Cat. Perry admitted he had no idea how successful the song would become.

His career also includes collaborations with Japanese group MAZZEL and Australian singer Ruel.

Perry explained that Japanese music stands out for its detailed arrangements, creative melodies, and unexpected key changes. He believes those characteristics can remain intact while reaching international listeners.

Looking ahead, Perry hopes to strengthen connections between Japanese artists and musicians overseas. He also emphasized the importance of personal relationships and in-person collaboration when building a career across different music markets.
