Shakira is supporting an education response for children affected by the June 24 earthquakes in Venezuela. In a video announcement, she said the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund would allocate $500,000 to organizations helping students whose schooling was interrupted.

According to the announcement shared by Shakira, local groups will be able to apply for funding aimed at helping children and teachers return to the classroom. The support is focused on restoring access to education as communities continue dealing with the disruption caused by the earthquakes.

Shakira also thanked Portuguese Prime Minister Luís Montenegro and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney for becoming the first government leaders to commit funding to the wider initiative. Their contributions support the fund’s broader goal of expanding educational opportunities for children affected by poverty and emergencies.

The Colombian singer has long supported education through her charitable work. Her latest involvement continues that effort by drawing attention to the needs of Venezuelan students and the organizations working to help them resume their studies.
