Aaron Sorkin revealed during The Town With Matt Belloni podcast that he is writing a movie about the January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol. The Oscar and Emmy-winner hinted the film could be a quasi-sequel to The Social Network, exploring the rise of misinformation. He blamed Facebook for its role in the events, accusing the platform of “tuning its algorithm to promote the most divisive material possible because that is what will increase engagement.”

Sorkin also criticized Mark Zuckerberg for prioritizing growth over integrity, saying: “If Mark Zuckerberg woke up tomorrow morning and realized that there is nothing you can buy for $120 billion that you can’t buy for $119 billion, so how about if I make a little less money and tune up integrity and tune down growth?” The Social Network, which came out in 2010, earned Sorkin an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay.
